Ten years ago, around my son’s birthday, I was already trying to name something I did not yet fully understand.
I sent my original email privately to my mother and sister.
My sister’s response expanded the conversation to include her husband, her children, my ex-husband, and his sister.
I was asking the adults involved to keep their conflict with me separate from my children.

Whatever else may be true, this also happened.
The pattern of the archetype:
Someone does something harmful.
I name it.
The response is not an examination of what happened, but an indictment of me for objecting to it.
The behavior disappears.
My objection becomes the offense.
Have you ever tried to repair a family rupture only to find yourself cast as the scapegoat for naming it?
